On Twitter, Witnessing the Start of a Body Image Revolution

After reading the program for the body image summit Endangered Species NYC (Courtney E. Martin, Jean Kilbourne, Susie Orbach, Julie Zeilinger, Rachel Simmons, Jess Weiner… in short, my favorite activists all in the same place) I was left with a deep sense of frustration. I simply could not afford a trip to NYC to attend this fantastic event and felt I was missing out on something big.

So I did the next best thing: I followed the event on Twitter, checking out the #ESummit hashtag. Luckily, there were hundreds of messages that documented what was happening at the New School, minute by minute.

Here are Twitter highlights from the fabulous two day conference:

And from the wonderful members of the Women’s Therapy Centre, who were instrumental in the organization of the event:

Thank you all for documenting the summit for those of us who couldn’t be there!

Let the body image revolution begin.

“Start” of a new body revolution? Hmm… apparently, I’m part of the first wave… the ones you send in before the revolution begins 😉 I’m a size 16-18 and have been doing S-factor (pole dancing) for about 3 years, and my classmates have consistently said I teach them with my Self… Glad to see the revolution is catching on… how do I get in on this Endangered Species thing anyway?

Thank you for the link, Carol. I’m in the process of building a “Resources” page on the site. I’ll definitely include wtci-nyc.org.

    Keep up the amazing work!
